Watercolour Courses in Cornwall
Janet Judge teaches watercolour courses at various venues in Cornwall and further afield.
When painting in watercolour it is easy to work too tightly, Janet helps students to loosen up in their technique using big brushes, sticks and feathers to apply paint and to try various drawing media which can be worked into wet watercolour.
Workshops usually start with big tonal drawings using charcoal or conte crayon. Teaching is through a mixture of demonstrations and individual tuition. We usually look at composition, and the use of tone: getting darks dark enough is often a problem in Watercolour. Janet will encourage you to start working with a limited palette to get to know a few colours really well, but also to try unusual colour combinations. Janet prefers to use artists quality tube colour to get rich juicy washes. A list of recommended colours and an equipment list will be sent to you on booking.
Contact Janet to be added to her mailing list to be the first to hear about new courses.
She is also able to offer demonstrations and workshops to local art groups, contact Janet for more information.

In late Spring there should be Bluebells and Rhododendrons flowering. In October the Hydrangeas will still be flowering in a more muted palette. There will always be plenty to inspire you to paint both in the garden and in the studio.
Based in the Function Room at this stunning garden on the banks of the Helford river, there are views down the garden to the river and the hills beyond.
Students will have the opportunity to paint in the gardens or on the terrace, or from a colourful variety of still life subjects reflecting the seasons.
There will be a mixture of demonstrations and individual tuition making these courses suitable for all abilities.
Janet will get you started with some large drawings and painting exercises to help you ‘loosen up’ and play with colour.
There will be a chance to work with a limited palette, try unusual colour combinations, work with mixed media and develop your own painting interests with the help and encouragement of your tutor.
On all courses students can bring their own equipment and materials or have everything provided for an extra £20 for 3 days.

At the Mullion Cove Hotel
Watercolour is the perfect medium for painting the sea and coast and the Mullion Cove Hotel is in the perfect position to be able to do this, situated right above this stunning coast and harbour.
At any time of year you might be able to work outside either to make a quick sketch or completed painting. The Studio is a large light room perfect if the weather is bad or you prefer to work inside.
Janet will start with exercises to help you loosen up and experiment with different ways to depict the transparent sea, stunning skies and rugged cliffs of this stretch of coast.
Janet often uses conte crayon (hard pastel) or other drawing media especially when working outside. You will have a chance to experiment with these media and a variety of different brushes, tools and techniques.
You will be helped and encouraged to develop your own painting interests and style. There will be a mixture of demonstrations and individual tuition making this course suitable for all abilities except the absolute beginner. An equipment list will be sent on receipt of your booking.
Refreshments and delicious lunches will be available in the hotel.
